Large or small, your island wedding will take a little more thought in planning because it will take place on an island. Although there are many places to hold your wedding ceremony and your reception, there are several other items to add to your planning list.

  • Transportation: How will you and your guests get to the island? Will you need to transport guests from the ferry docks, or from the site of the ceremony to the site of the reception?

  • Accommodations: Will the ceremony and reception be too late for guests to leave the island? Will you need accommodations for a large number of people, or a small intimate group?

  • Catering: Will you require a caterer? Will it be easier to bring your cake or have it made here?

  • Marriage License: Where to get your license if you're from out of state? Can you purchase your license in your own county if you're from Ohio?

  • Ohio Marriage Laws: Know the age limits, etc. for getting married in Ohio.

  • Planning for a Day Visit: If you are having a formal wedding ceremony and do not plan to spend the night, where will you change your clothes?

  • Suggested Island Wedding Locations: The Gazebo in DeRivera Park is a popular spot.

  • Planning your Wedding Ceremony: Suggested readings and music, examples of religious and civil ceremonies, a traditional order of service, wedding traditions and frequently asked questions.

  • Officiants: A little background information on who we are.

  • Wedding Fact Sheet: Information you provide about you to assist us in planning your personalize ceremony.

Accommodations:

Put-in-Bay offers a wide variety of accommodations, from island cottages to 100-room hotels. All of the accommodations are non-franchise lodging and owned by island residents. Depending on the size of your wedding party, you might also want to consider an island bed and breakfast. Many B&B's will rent their entire home at a discounted rate and offer lovely backdrops for a beauty island wedding ceremony.

The larger and newer hotels on the island include The Bay Lodging House, the Islander Inn & Grand Islander Inn and new in 2004, the BayShores Resort. Each of these facilities is clean and well maintained and has a swimming pool. All are located in or near downtown.

If you are planning a wedding for 2004, you might call now to see about accommodations for your guests. Some lodging owners do not accept reservations until after January 1, but others will book a year ahead. An island bed and breakfast is an ideal choice for a small wedding and several of these B&Bs offer beautiful settings for the wedding ceremony itself. We are including three island B&Bs that have hosted weddings and we personally recommend everyone of them.

Ashley's features a beautiful wrap-around porch and a large dining area. Ashley's serves a large breakfast and each of the 13 rooms has a different theme. The Grape Leaf Inn at Vintner's Cove is the island's only waterfront bed and breakfast and is located off Langram Road, about a 10-minute walk from downtown. Stagger Inn, is located on Concord Avenue and was the home of the first island settler, Phillip Vroman.
