There are many
locations around the island for you to have your Wedding Ceremony.
The island has two churches -- St. Paul's Episcopal Church
and Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. In order to be
married in either parish, you must contact the church and make
arrangements with their clergy to be married.
Like most churches,
both St. Paul's and Mother of Sorrows require the couple to receive
counseling before the marriage can take place. You need to discuss
with the individual clergy what each require to have them marry you
within their particular church.
Contact The Reverend
Allen LaMontagne at St. Paul's at
419-285-5981 and contact Father
Jeffrey Nordhaus at Mother of Sorrows at 419-285-2741.
The most popular spot
at Put-in-Bay for an Island Wedding is the Gazebo in DeRivera
Park downtown.
The park gazebo
overlooks the downtown harbor and is essentially the heart of the
village itself. The DeRivera Park Trust oversees the operation and
maintenance of the park.
There is a $50 fee for
use of the gazebo, but the Trust will waive the fee if the couple
sign a release form acknowledging that:
-
Alcoholic beverages of
any kind are not permitted in the park as it is public property.
-
The park is not liable
for any injuries sustained if there is an accidental fall, etc.
Contact Tom Ohlemacher
at 419-285-2076 to arrange to use the DeRivera Park Gazebo.
Oak Point Park, located on the point of Squaw Harbor,
is a small park that overlooks Gibraltar Island and the downtown
bay. There is no fee for holding your wedding at Oak Point Park, but
arrangements need to be made prior to the ceremony by calling
419-285-2112.
Likewise, South
Bass Island State Park has a picturesque view of the lake
and located on a cliff overlooking the
island's southwestern
shoreline. Once occupied by the world's largest hotel -- The Hotel
Victory -- South Bass Island State Park does not charge a fee for
wedding ceremonies, but arrangements must be made ahead of time by
contacting the park's Chief Ranger at 419-285-2112.
Perry's Victory
and International Peace Memorial. Due
to the solemn nature of the Memorial, wedding cereminies are not
permitted
on the monument itself. However, two nearby grassy sites can be
available for weddings. A permit is required in advance, with a
minimum $50 fee for ceremonies of 50 people or fewer.
Contact Supereintendent Andy Ferguson or Chief Ranger Sue Judis at
419-285-2184 for more information.
Another idea for a
beautiful wedding location are several of the islands Bed and
Breakfasts. Some suggested locations are at
Ashley's Island House,
The Grape Leaf Inn,

These beautiful and

ceremony. All five will be happy to also discuss renting their
entire home for your wedding.
